Dolls for Viscera Film Festival

I will start off by showing you the dolls I am sending out to California for the Viscera Film Festival.

I absolutely love this non-profit organization it's main objective is to raise awareness of woman's changing roles in the Film industry. They specialize in short horror films made by women with a yearly screening of films and a red carpet ceremony. I was lucky enough to be contacted by this organization to sponsor their red carpet event on July 7 for their private auction. For anyone living near the Hollywood, Ca area, tickets for this event are on sale with special guests line up and an after party. If only I wasn't all the way out on the East coast hopefully next year. Please visit them  http://www.viscerafilmfestival.com/#! also visit the new Etheria Film Festival is a new film festival, that screens best short films in fantasy and sci-fi genre also Directed/produced by women. This is an awesome organization & hope many take the opportunity to consider donating. Also has many opportunities for women to submit their work for short films in horror, sci fi, and fantasy genres my favorite & I'm sure for many other women too!!

Dollhouse scale dolls 1:12

I've decided to alter some of Madame Alexander dolls that I had lying around for an adult dollhouse, I have recently had increase in request to do these miniature versions of my dark creations the only problem with these particular dolls were that none of the head pieces or clothing on head were removable but I made it work, these are perfect addition for any dollhouse add a dark character to the plot while setting up one of the rooms in your dollhouse! I will be also adding some pure sculpt miniatures soon.

Today I was working on this steampunk sculpture, I revamped two other pieces and combined them into one. Figures were made out of polymer clay other objects including some vintage jewelry and other found objects.

Steampunk Alien

Steampunk Alien full size head. It was fun to make but very tedious. I decided to use cloth mache on top of the paper mache to show more wrinkling & creases for skin so this was the first time sculpting with cloth so here it is. I also did a creepy watchman holding a lantern with this technique I will post as soon as I am done. I used many recycled items for this alien; around his head is gold 45 long colt blank bullet casings, around neck I think it was a old potato masher, on top of head which opens up can be used to put something in, maybe stash some money also back of head is part of a strainer. This is definitely a conversational piece to any home.

Inspiration from Eagle Arms Gun Show

On the weekend, I accompanied my husband to Eagle Arms gun show at Split Rock, as I was making my way through the aisles I was amazed on how insanely packed this show was with 100's of vendors and more attendees. This was my first gun show usually my husband would just go but I promised my teenage son I would get him some survival gear he wanted. I was amazed with all the zombie stuff there was, we are all big fans of "The Walking Dead" show, vendors were carrying tons of zombie target posters and zombie tees.  Inspiration time... I thought why not combine bullet casings with my zombie creations so here it is, hope you like.

Happy Horrific Family

This project is a custom order I just finished. The family were made to fit a dollhouse scale 1/12, the three children were altered & the parents were pure sculpt the dad is a zombie & mom is a crazed woman who loves her family to death.

By the way to answer the question "Why not just do all your dolls pure sculpt?" I love doing pure sculpt as it involve many additional steps and time, I also love to alter dolls and see how creepy I can turn a beautiful doll into.

Some of the reasons for altering dolls are;
1. Keep cost lower for customers who want to start their collection of creepy dolls.
2. The turnaround time is much quicker with altered dolls than pure sculpt.
3. Some people just like to mix it up like in this custom family.

Reasons for pure sculpt/custom.
Even though you won't get this kind of work overnight it's well worth the wait you are able to design practically every aspect of your doll from doll type, clothing, color, size, accessories, theme etc. prices are higher but you are involved in the process step by step.

Old school Horror Films

First of all I would like to start my blog by listing some of my favorite old school horror films, since so much inspiration with my dolls stems from horror flicks.

1930-1959
Frankenstein 1931
The Freaks  1932
The Mystery of the wax museum 1935
Bride of Frankenstein  1935
Invasion of the body snatchers 1956 & 1978
Self Medication 1959
Some of the these older ones like "The freaks" & "Self Medication" are similar style in my opinion to Alfred Hitchcock, I can't find too much information on the "Self Medication" one I saw this one on TMC channel maybe year ago.

1960-1969
Psycho 1960
Carnival of Souls 1962
The Birds 1963   I was riding my bike in a park in Jersey after sunset & I had a bat attack my head I never peddled faster in my life, all I thought about was this movie!
 Blood Feast 1963
Night of the Living Dead 1967
Rosemary's baby 1968   Very very creepy lullaby.
The Devil Ride's out 1968
